Club Notes

We cannot hide from the fact that our senior footballers were comprehensively beaten last week, did we deserve to lose? Absolutely, Crokes were a fitter & stronger team. The time for finger pointing is over and we all need to pull in the same direction, ultimately we all want the same outcome but we as a group of like mined individuals need to map the best route forward to bring our great club back to prominence at all levels across all codes.

The Intermediate footballers lost narrowly to Na Fianna on Saturday but performed valiantly with a good mix of youth and experience fielding 11 x U21’s, our Intermediate camogie having 14 x U18’s are also leading the charge with some excellent young players.

Great wins for the Junior footballers in the championship against O’Dwyers and the U15 hurlers against St Marks with an excellent hatrick by man of the match Christian Lowe. A special well done to Neil Matthews who played centre back for the Dublin minors in their victory against Meath, your extended Isles family are extremely proud of your achievements to date.

Last weekend was the 3rd successive weekend hosting a Feile competition, on this occasion we hosted 2 groups or eight teams. While our camogie girls were unfortunate not to get through their group they played their hearts out and they should be very proud of themselves. Anyone who has attended one of these weekends would have witnessed a fantastically well-organized event by a team of excellent volunteers who have received well deserved plaudits from all concerned.

Commiserations to our boys feile team who lost out in the qualifying round on Saturday. After a great victory over “the Mun” a series of unfortunate injuries meant that they were not at full strength. Keep your heads up lads as you gave a good account of yourselves.

U8 Girls camogie v Castleknock, Well done to Clodagh White, Kotryna Mikalaliskaite, sisters Audrey and Mya Phillis

A fantastic 2 points for our senior 5 camogie team versus Ballinteer in the first league game, well done to all who played their hearts out. Also congrats to Louise O’Hara who was awarded the player of the tournament at Saturday’s legends 2017 match.

The adult hurling Division 9 team had a narrow loss at the weekend, with an average age of 62 the full back line shows that there is life in these old codgers!

The team of the weekend has to be our Dublin Feile Champions, young ladies there is only one word to describe you and that is brilliant! Actually one word isn't enough, all of you showed great determination, confidence, spirit with an excellent range of skills. From all of the Isles members and friends and from the people of Finglas and the surrounding areas we would like to thank you for winning this title in our name. These memories will stay with you for the rest of your lives but for now enjoy it and live in the moment as you prepare for the National Feile in June. The club is hosting the boy’s football Feile this weekend, games start at 10.30am on Saturday. Please come down and support our boys.

The senior footballers had a good hard fought victory against Mary’s on Saturday and we would like to congratulate our inter county camogie representatives on their Leinster championship matches Molly Brown playing in the U16 victory against Wexford and Meg Thomas in goal for their Minor victory against Offaly.

The U16 footballers were defeated in the championship on Sunday and after witnessing their disappointment I wanted to reiterate a statement made a few months ago after a number of successive defeats at different age groups. Sport represents life in many ways; along the journey you are going to face setbacks and disappointment but the true measure of a person is how they react and learn from it. Nobody likes to loose but like winning it becomes a habit, we as a group need to turn this negative into a positive and make winning our default position. We are more than capable of achieving our goals with some hard work and honesty of effort.

The U8 girl’s camogie team had their first games against Naomh Mearnog & Clann na Gael on Sunday morning. Great performances from all the girls especially Grace Kenny , Nicole Boshell and great defending by Dearbhla Gorman (skills she learnt from her Mammy I'm sure!)

As part of our centenary celebrations we are hosting 3 Feile’s over the next 3 weekends starting with the Girls football this Saturday April 1st. Kick off at 10.30am. All support welcome
